A massive congrats 👏 & thanks to Stephen Draper

A massive congrats 👏 & thanks to Stephen Draper & his @hendrycycles team for 32 yrs of supporting all things cycling for our local community. And similarly congrats to @simongerrans, one of our nation’s greatest cyclists 🇦🇺, who will be taking over the reigns of both the Grovedale & Ocean Grove stores. Stephen has been a great supporter of our club including in its infancy as Surf Coast Trail Group. He’s been a keen MTB’er and racer over that time & has trained up many a young bike mechanic to keep us on our bikes. We’re sure there’s plenty of stories to reminisce on. Stephen will be around supporting the store for some time during this transition. We wish him all the best in this next chapter of his life 😃🍾.

It’s with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of one of the surf coast’s great characters & bike mechanic legend Griffyn Branagh.

Griff has been a huge part of the local cycling community over many years. His mechanical skills kept many of us on the trails and the road. He was a unique character and so many of us will have lasting memories of conversations that played out as he tinkered with our bikes on the spot. His skills on a unicycle were incredible be it locally, on the You Yangs downhill trails and even competing in the Otway Odyssey events where he often doubled as the event’s mechanic. At one stage he was the proud owner of a penny-farthing that he eventually parted with when it added to his impressive list of bicycle related injuries!

Our deepest sympathies to family and friends. There will be a service to celebrate Griff’s life & accomplishments at 10am Tues Feb 20 at Tuckers Funeral Home (4-32 Province Blvd, Highton). It’s an open invitation & can accommodate a large crowd fitting to celebrate his larger than life character.

RIP Griff & thanks for everything you contributed to our cycling world 🙏

Anglesea Bike Park temporarily closed 😢. Surf Coast Shire are currently investigating potential asbestos contamination that’ll likely take a few days & may extend into the weekend. Spring Valley Bike Park has also had some recent improvements works made possible by the recent rain. Please avoid riding there until that’s dry & firm 🙏 #surfcoastmtb #bikeparks

It’s starting to get busy on the surf coast! Wishing everyone a happy & safe upcoming Christmas / NY break 🎄. We hope you get a chance for some trail time with family & friends. Please remember to be kind & respectful of those close by 🙏. It’s a great chance for us to show non-riding folk that MTB’ers are a courteous bunch. Public discontent does not help our trail advocacy cause. Please give some thought to where you ride and be particularly mindful of busy areas such as surf coast walk and town shopping centres.
